Movement:
The corporation continued to undertake massive movement of foodgrains
mainly from surplus states of North i.e. Punjab, Haryana and Uttar
Pradesh to deficit areas and buffer stocks centers situated all over the
country by rail and road. During the year 1999 - 2000, transportation of
foodgrains including sugar was 22.94 million tonnes as compared to 20.19
million tonnes during the year 1998-1999.
The average lead of
transportation of foodgrains was 1540 kms during 1999 - 2000 as compared
to 1470 kms. during 1998-1999.
